Nettle-Mint: Recharge with Cold Infusions

The first Nettle Harvest of the year signals the beginning of growing season at Stellar Roots. It’s the first herb we harvest and it’s available now! Also, a word on our pricing updates- and some grace for our loyal customers.

This Spring’s drought hasn’t been easy. But with robust soil-building and carbon management practices, our plants have faired well, considering. In fact, though the plants look more rough in the field, our first Nettle harvest seems to be more potent than ever, via Organoleptics: Rich, deep green and fragrant, the nutritive qualities of Nettle are not to be missed!

A word about herb prices

Our prices raised this year for Nettle and a few other herbs. Here’s why:

Last year, we received a grant (thanks GA Organics!) to hire a consultant to audit of our pricing. We traced the entire process from planting, tending and harvest to drying, handling and packaging and evaluated the costs of production. Mostly, we found that we are not yet breaking even with individual bulk herbs. Dried Nettle still costs us over $100/ lb to produce. It’s partly because of our careful attention to every step of the process, from hand harvesting to hand bagging. Nevertheless, it’s good info to have, and I feel confident as we scale, we can streamline to be more efficient. This year, in an effort to break even in our 3rd official year in business, we raised prices some. Nettle went from $55 to $60 per pound.

If you purchased something in 2024 or 2025 and have a hard time affording it again, please let me know and i’ll work with you just this year to honor previous pricing, or split the difference. I know times are hard. We very much value relationships with repeat customers!
